LAURA SILVERMAN, WHO BRANDISHES a gun and runs down a hallway like nobody's business, has been awash in good press lately thanks to her part on The Sarah Silverman Program on Comedy Central. Everybody who writes about Laura clearly develops a little crush on her, but this is my personal favorite Love Letter to Laura, from New York Magazine:

That's our Joely...

I MET WITH INVESTORS in Riverside, California to show-off a rough cut of trailer footage. Once I started bragging about our shoot, they had to counter-brag with some of their past projects, stuff they've been involved with in one way or another.

THE BIG DICK CONTEST almost ended in their favor when they showed me their "TV Room." Holy crap. One wall was completely dominated by a TV the size of my living room wall. First, we watched samples of films from other production companies (who had submitted to these same investors for funding) and I'm sorry, but the video just fell apart when it hit the large screen.

THEN CAME KNIFE TO A GUN FIGHT. Rough footage, unmixed sound, everything raw as a porterhouse steak at a cannibal camp, and it was just BEAUTIFUL. I was in love all over again, Laura Silverman and Rachel True, bigger than life and even more gorgeous than I remember them. And trust me, I remember them being pretty gorgeous. Our investors kept saying things like "Oh, so the whole movie is shot," and "You shot this in three days? Wow."

AND I GOT TO STAND THERE and take all the credit. Thanks to a great cast and a crew that still don't know how to quit. This footage is totally rocking the socks off of everyone who sees it.

KNIFE TO A GUN FIGHT and MadCat Movies made it into the March 13 edition of Century City News in a positively glowing profile:

I'M NOT USUALLY one to gush (in fact, I'm "the mean one" on-set, ask the crew) but the footage all looks really beautiful. Our actors did a great job, and I'm really having fun watching all of it. I can't figure out how we shot SO MUCH FOOTAGE in four days. The big challenge is going to be having so many good choices; it'll be hard to narrow it down.

AND JOELY'S SWIMSUIT, the yellow one with the orange flowers? You'll see it. I had that exact swimsuit in eighth grade. I won't tell you how long ago that was, but...no, that's all. I won't tell you how long ago that was.

THE EDITING OFFICIALLY BEGINS NEXT WEEK...

THE TRAILER is in the can. The footage has been shipped to Los Angeles to be sliced up and spit out as three minutes of beautiful.
